Chapter chairman reminds civil servants to be neutral in upcoming

elections

Obuasi (Ash), Feb 19, GNA – Civil Servants have been reminded to remain neutral in the forthcoming general election and not let the vote pose any challenge to their duties.

Mr. Justice Opia-Mensah, Secretary of the Obuasi chapter of Civil Servants Association (CSA) of Ghana, said the neutrality of members was crucial in their duties as the engine for government machinery. “We are to work to project government policies and programmes and we can only do this with perfection when we remain neutral in the game of politics,” he said.

Mr Opia-Mensah was addressing a meeting organized by the Kumasi Chapter of the Association to review their activities for last year. He appealed to civil servants to remain committed to their respective jobs to enhance productivity, by eschewing absenteeism and malingering, adding, “we have to respect time”.

Mr Opia-Mensah appealed to the government to implement recommendations contained in the Fair Wages Commission’s report. He said the Ashanti regional chapter of the Association had plans to undertake a housing scheme for members and urged them others to embrace the idea. Mr Opia-Mensah commended civil servants in the region for their devotion to duty in 2007 and urged them to build upon it this year.
