Channel funds for community development through Area Councils

Nsuta (B/A) Sept. 15, GNA – Mr. Stephen Awala, Treasurer of Nsuta Area Council in Techiman Municipality has appealed to MPs to channel materials they provide for communities through Assembly Members, town and area councils.

He said when packages of MPs’ Common Fund in cash or in kind were allocated to communities for development without the knowledge of Assembly Members, council and unit committee members it was almost impossible for the process to be monitored. Mr. Awala was addressing revenue collectors of Nkwaeso and Nsuta Councils at separate meetings on the effective ways for revenue mobilization.

“The execution of MP’s projects in communities must be of great concern to Assembly Members and unit committees as well as town and area councils in order to avoid duplication in the provision of infrastructure”, he said.

Mr. Awal noted that projects were being carried out in most communities without the knowledge of members of the lower strata of the local government system and urged MPs to help change the situation to ensure the steady progress of work. He disclosed that tax defaulters would soon be arraigned before courts and advised tax dodgers to change to avoid prosecution.

The treasurer commended the collectors for their hard work and urged them to keep it up.
