Channel District Assembly Common Fund through Rural Banks government urged

The Gomoa District Planning Officer, Mr Gabriel Mfodjoh has called for an amendment to the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) law to allow the fund to be channeled through rural banks in the district where there are no other banks.

Mr Mfodjoh said when that was done, the confidence in the rural banks would be heightened and the inconveniences in accessing the fund from banks in other district would be eliminated.

He was speaking at a meeting with some opinion leaders in the district at Apam on Monday.

The meeting, which was attended by chiefs, assembly and unit committee members, NGOs and heads of departments was to discuss some problems facing people of the district.

Mr Mfodjoh said since there are rural banks in almost every district, it would be proper if the Common Fund Administrator should allow the fund to be accessed in these banks.

The District Chief Executive, Miss Joyce Aidoo appealed to the government and the United Nations Commission on Refugees (UNCR) to create a special fund for the district to enable it cater for the needs of over 30,000 Liberian refugees at Gomoa Buduburam.
