Chairman Wontumi denies NPP involvement in vandalism

The Ashanti regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reacted to alleged reports of destruction of properties and attacks on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The party says its checks have revealed that such dastard acts are not being perpetrated by members of the party, but rather elements masquerading as sympathizers of the NPP.

In a statement issued and signed by its Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, the party condemned the attacks unreservedly and charged on the security agencies to swiftly act and arrest the faceless elements behind the illegality.

According to the NPP, it is absurd to assume that supporters of a party that has achieved an emphatic victory will go about attacking its opponents or destroying property in the cause of their jubilation.

“Such action, we believe, can only be undertaken by people who are disgruntled as a result of electoral defeat; no true NPP member will embark on such activity,” the statement noted.

It further called on party supporters to be on the lookout for any person that will attempt to engage in such acts and report them to the police.

“It is our hope that the security agencies will act expediently to unravel faces behind the illegal acts and bring them to book,” the party said.

The Regional NPP Chairman further observed in the statement that the NPP is a political organization that believes in true democracy and exchange of ideologies and would therefore not resort to violence or attacks on its opponents.
