Chainsaw operator remanded in prison custody for defilement

Mankranso (Ash), Dec 29, GNA=96 The Mankranso Magistrate Court, has remanded an 18 year-old chainsaw operator into prison custody for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl, at Hwibaa near Wioso in the Ahafo-Ano South District, leading to her death.

Yaw Antwi plea was not taken and would re-appear on January 16, 2007.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Nyansu told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on December 11, this year, the victim complained to her mother about stomach pains while her mode of walking had changed.

She said while bathing her daughter she detected a sore in her female organ and rushed her to the Mankranso District Hospital, where she died the next day on admission.

The prosecutor said the victim before dying mentioned Antwi as having had sex with her and warned her not to disclose it to anyone or else she would die.

The mother reported the case to the Wioso police who arrested the accused and after investigation charged him with the offence. Chief Inspector Nyansu said the body of the victim has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for autopsy.
