Ho, Aug.21, GNA – Personnel of the Custom, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) would now undertake Integrity Awareness Training (IAT) as part of their training course.
This is to enable the Service train and retain a new crop of personnel with strong moral character to resist any form of temptation. Mr Emmanuel Doku, Commissioner of CEPS announced this at the passing out parade of 80 officers including 29 women at Kpetoe. Mr Doku explained that the introduction of IAT in their training programme had become necessary in view of the new challenges of global trade and international security concerns.
He said as a continuous learning institution, it was proper to organise regular training programmes for its personnel to re-orient them and prepare them adequately to meet challenges in their operations. Mr Doku was optimistic that the new programme would create a new culture of training that would be unique and enduring.
Mr Doku called on personnel of the Service to use their training to fight corruption, increase their commitment and enthusiasm for the corporate vision and mission of CEPS.
“You should use the knowledge acquired to clarify our vision, analyse our procedures, problems and support management towards the creation of a respectable revenue agency,” Mr Doku added. He urged them to use the revenue mobilisation tools at their disposal as a foundation to create a knowledgeable work force that understood and appreciated the dynamics of modern business practices and tax regimes.
Ms Dinah Tetteh, Collection Assistant Three was adjudged the best all round trainee after the six week course which treated topics including, organisational command, structure, principles of taxation and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Mr Emmanuel Tettey, Junior Collection Assistant Four was also adjudged best trainee in weapon training.
