Accra, Oct. 24, GNA – Officials of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) Thursday night arrested a large haul of cannabis at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra. The haul, weighing 664 kilograms with street value of 3.9 million pounds, is suspected to be meant for Europe, according Nana Egyin Buadu, CEPS Chief Collector Investigations at the Airport. The owner of the consignment has not been arrested, but a Clearing Agent processing the documents of the cargo in which the cannabis was disguised, is assisting the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in their investigations.
Nana Buadu said the cannabis was found hidden underneath foodstuffs including cocoyam, plantain and kenkey, packed in a total of 53 boxes. He said 50 boxes of the cargo contained cannabis with only three of them containing foodstuffs.
Giving the details, he said there were 230 parcels, including 192 slabs of compressed cannabis, 40 bowls containing cannabis paste and eight cylindrical containers also containing cannabis paste.
