CEPS in Sunyani destroy smuggled cigarettes

Sunyani, Feb. 14, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional Headquarters of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Thursday destroyed quantities of cigarettes smuggled into the region. The cigarettes were 50 cartons of royal filter, 20 cartons of Rothmans Royal, 50 cartons of King Size filter, 49 cartons of London Kingsize, 50 cartons of Gold Seal and 17 packets of London filter Kingsize. Briefing newsmen prior to the destruction at the premises of CEPS in Sunyani, Assistant Commissioner Imoru Farouk Adam, Sector Commander, expressed concern about the increasing rate of smuggling, particularly imitated cigarettes, into the region. He said the government was determined to promote and enhance the local cigarette industry and it was against this background that it had imposed high tariffs on imported cigarettes.
