Aflao, July 2, GNA – The Aflao Sector of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) seemed to be having difficulty in locating a “friendly” site for destroying seized goods. Ghana News Agency learnt that the Sector was forced to move from its original destruction site at Klikor near Agbozume where CEPS personnel were allegedly pelted with stones for preventing people from making away with the seized goods.
From Klikor the Sector moved to Akpatoeme near Dzodze but the reception from the people was not better, giving indications that the Akpatoeme site would also be abandoned for a yet another site. Mr. Evans Klutse, the Sector Commander, told GNA during the destruction of some goods on Friday that the Sector would not relent in its “war’ against fake and unwholesome products to safeguard national and consumer safety.
The goods destroyed included fake starkist Tuna flakes, banned medicated soap, assorted pharmaceuticals, mosquito coils, pornographic and pirated musical and video materials. Mr. Klutse said the Sector had in its custody 625 cartons of fruit juice, allegedly recalled from Togo by a Ghanaian company because they were near expired. 2 July 10
