CEPS destroys unwholesome imported beef

Koforidua, Aug 6, GNA – The Eastern Regional Office of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Thursday, destroyed 75 cartons of Beef Pate worth 16.4 million cedis illegally imported into the country.

The goods, which could have attracted import duty of over six million cedis, were seized at Atimpoku, in the Asuogyaman District on July 27, last year.

This was at a time when the government had banned the importation of beef products from European Union countries, except France, due to the outbreak of the mad-cow disease.

Mr Isaac Toffah, Principal Customs Collector and the New Juaben Municipal Environmental Officer, Mr Martin Abajori, supervised the destruction.
