CEPS Arrests Drug Courier

The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday arrested Koame Afawobo, a 34 year-old Togolese national for attempting to smuggle into the country substances suspected to be cocaine. The suspect, who arrived on a KLM flight from Amsterdam, Holland, had concealed 92 oval shaped pellets weighing 1.4 kilograms in his stomach.

A source at CEPS told newsmen that Afawobo was picked up after normal profiling of passengers for further search due to his questionable behaviour. A thorough investigation and examination revealed that he had travelled to a drug producing country and he was detained for further examination. The suspect has been handed over to the CEPS narcotics unit for further investigations.
