The Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine (CSRPM) says it has found a cure for the Parkinson Disease, cancer of the cervic and prostrate cancer, also known as urine retention.
The disclosure was made in Accra at the on going Sixth Ghana International Trade Fair. Mr. Osafo Mensah, head of the Pharmacology Department of the CSRPM, said the diseases can be cured with a combination of some herbal products.
He said there is also a herbal product for the effective treatment of typhoid fever. Mr. Mensah said patronage at the centre is about 80 patients a day on clinic days, which begins from Mondays to Fridays.
The centre does not, however, sell any of its products outside because they are not produced on a large scale, adding that their raw materials are from the forests and would have to be environmentally friendly.
The centre is starting a medicinal farm to enable it to go into large-scale production. The Centre maintains collaborative links with a number of local and foreign institutions and formulates herbal medicinal extracts for incorporation into proprietary products of local and international concerns.
If the discovery is substantiated by tests, then Ghana stands to rake in millions since Parkinson’s disease, for instance, affects a high proprtions of people in the developed world. Notable figures affected include Mohammed Ali, the ex-world boxing champion.
