Central regional GPRTU chairman retains seat

Agona Swedru, Nov 7, GNA – Mr Robert K. Eshun, Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has been re-elected for another four-year term. He polled 82 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Kwame Kumah, who had 59.

Alhaji Yahaya Amadu is the Vice Chairman while Mr Albert Mensah and Mr Kojo Adam-Appiah were elected First and Second Trustees respectively. The election, which was scheduled for August this year, was postponed due to a court injunction filed by Mr Kwame Kumah against the Chairman for alleged diversion and misappropriation of funds. The Central Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Mark Ayimadunad and the National Executives of the Union supervised the election. Mr Eshun thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and the new Executives and pledged to work harder than before to improve the conditions of members.

He cautioned them not to allow partisan politics to divide their ranks, saying, “The union is not a political party. It serves the government of the day”.
