Central Region workers mark May Day

Thousands of workers in the Central Region on Tuesday, went on a procession through the streets of Twifo Praso amidst singing and dancing to this year’s May Day celebration at Twifo-Praso.

The event, chaired by Mr John Michael Aggrey, Central Regional Chairman of the Trades Union Congress {TUC), was attended by a cross–section of the public and government officials.

The theme for the celebration was “the role of workers in securing peaceful and fair elections”.

Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, the Regional Minister, applauded the TUC for coming out to condemn the recent disturbances and provocative utterances that emerged in some parts of the country during the recent biometric registration exercise.

She asked workers to refrain from doing politics at the work place and rather do it at home.

The Minister asked them to work harder than before to increase production to help facilitate the improvements of their conditions of service.

Mr Joseph Foster Andoh, the District Chief Executive for the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira, urged workers to guard against violence during the 2012 elections fo0r them to enjoy the fruit of their labour.

Prizes were awarded to hard working and outstanding workers.**
