Cape Coast, May 26, GNA – Some Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) executives in the Central Region have expressed concern over the strike action by members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) most of whom are teaching in senior secondary schools.
They said they were “deeply worried” about the adverse effects of the teachers’ action on the academic performance of senior secondary students, especially those in their final year as well as about general discipline on school compounds.
The interim PTA executives of the St. Augustine’s College, Ghana National College, Mfantsipim and Academy of Christ the King expressed these concerns in a resolution at the end of a meeting they held at Cape Coast on Wednesday.
They said the forthcoming SSSCE examinations are “West-Africa based and cannot be easily postponed for the sake of Ghana”, called on NAGRAT to soften its stance and appealed to the education authorities to take constructive measures to address their grievances.
The resolution suggested that some schools should be closed down temporarily to prevent students from loitering about on campus and in town without supervision.
