Many cases of cholera have been recorded in hospitals in the Cape Coast Metropolis since Friday, raising fears of an outbreak.
Authorities at the Central Regional Health Directorate are however tight- lipped over the actual number of cases, and would want some time before making that information public.
Information gathered by The Ghanaian Times from within indicates that more than 40 cases had been recorded as at yesterday morning, with no report of death.
A series of meetings were held on Monday morning, in connection with the situation and the Regional Minister was expected to be briefed after which it would be declared an outbreak.
According to health officials, certain measures had been instituted to bring the situation under control while residents were advised to be careful of the food they consumed.
The Central Region had since 2015 kept a clean sheet on cholera, after it recorded a total of 4,271 in 16 districts, with 57 deaths in 2014.
Cape Coast Metropolis was the worst affected area, recording 2,182 cases and 20 deaths.
