Central Region heads for economic recovery

Cape Coast, Nov. 24, GNA – Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister, on Wednesday said the region was gradually moving out of the shadow of financial crisis and heading for economic recovery.

She called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to work with Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other stakeholders, to create a favourable business environment, to attract investments into the region.

Mrs Benyiwa-Doe made the call in a speech read on her behalf at an investment forum on “Salt Production and Real Estate Development”, in Cape Coast. The event was on the theme: “Harnessing the Potentials of the Salt Industry and Attracting Private Investments into the Housing Industry in the Central Region”.

It was was organised by the Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM) and attended by about 100 participants drawn from the MDAs, the private sector, MMDAs, financial institutions and the Cape Coast Traditional Council. She said although the region offered vast opportunities for the production of salt in commercial quantities, the people lacked money and equipment to enable them to exploit the resource.

Mrs. Benyiwa-Doe said the theme for the event was appropriate because it reflected the vision of Government to promote economic development through local and foreign investments.

She called on the MDAs and MMDAs to support the real estate and salt mining sectors and said Government had initiated an economic intervention plan that was being implemented by the CEDECOM, to support small-scale producers in the region. Dr. Anthony Ntsiful, Executive Director of CEDECOM, noted that the region’s coastline was ideal for the production of salt in large quantities.
