Central Region chiefs elect new president

Cape Coast, Oct 14, GNA – The Central Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday elected Nana Kwamena Ansah IV, Omanhene of Eguafo Traditional Area, as its President.

The 67-year old chief, who is a journalist and an administrator, succeeds Nana Atta Amanafo Poku, VI.

Nana Ansah polled 13 of the 25 votes cast, to beat two other contestants, Nana Amoakwa Boadu, II, Omanhene of Breman Asikuma and Barima Kwame Nkyi XII, Omanhene of Assin Apimanim Traditional area, who had 10 and two votes respectively.

For the position of vice- president, Otumfuo Amoa Sasraku, III, Omanhene Twifo-Heman traditional area, beat Neenyi Ghartey VII, Omanhen of the Efutu Traditional Area, by 13 votes to 12.

Five chiefs were also elected as the house’s representatives to the National House of Chiefs.

They are Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Omanhene of Abeadze Dominase, Okatakyi Amanfi VII, Asebu Traditional Area Omanhene, and the newly elected president, Nana Ansah, Okumanini Dr Obiri Yeboah, Omanhene of Efutuakwa Traditional Area and Neenyi Ghartey.

The new president thanked the house for electing him and promised to work hard to reduce the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the region.
