The Central Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) has instituted measures to improve water supply in the region. They include providing 10 water tankers and a few more from the Western region to supplement the fleet of vehicles already distributing water to the region. A statement released in Accra today and signed by the Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kojo Yankah, said this was the outcome of an emergency meeting attended by the Minister of Works and Housing, members of the Regional Disaster Management Committee and the Regional Security Council. The statement said the Ministry of Works and Housing would make available four pedal-flow solar-powered water pumps to generate 16,000 gallons of water to serve the university, hospitals, clinics and other sensitive areas regularly. Meanwhile, the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC) has, intensified the rehabilitation of hand-dug wells and pumps throughout the affected areas. The RCC, therefore, advised the public to exercise “adequate hygienic discipline particularly at funerals, drinking and chop bars”. It also warned charcoal burners, wood-cutters, sand winners and farmers to stay away from river beds and catchment areas around river Kakum and the Brimsu water works. JOY
