CENAB-USA Warns Against Ongoing Illegalities At Ghana-Togo Border

It has come to the attention of the USA wing of the Coalition to Elect Nana Addo & Bawumia (CENAB-USA) that some persons in authority who should be upholding the constitution of our beloved nation have rather turned out to be those perpetuating crime against the good people of Ghana on the Ghana-Togo border by bringing in Togolese to register to vote in the impending 2016 general elections. This unlawful conduct to have non-Ghanaians in Ghana’s voters register does not only indict our identity as a sovereign nation but stands to be a potential recipe for chaos and disaster in the coming days.

We are authoritatively informed that Pascal Lamptey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ketu-South; W.O. Dodgbe, a National Security Officer; and a Custom officer at the Aflao border, Officer Asigbee are those working hand-in-hand with their recruited agents to transport Togolese from Togo to register in the Ketu-South Constituency and its environs; an act that constitutes an infringement on our electoral laws. The fact also remains that these unscrupulous persons in authority are working for and in the interest of the John Mahama and the NDC government.

Though agents of the opposition parties at various polling stations in the Ketu-South constituency have filled EC’s Challenge Form to vehemently challenge the registration of these Togolese, CENAB-USA by this publication is calling on the Electoral Commission (EC) to quickly step in and act to halt such illegalities. We are hereby also calling on the security agencies (Police and Customs) to investigate this issue and call those leading such unlawful charge to order and be made to face the full rigors of the law.

In article 42 of the 1992 republican constitution of our nation, the letters clearly state that ONLY citizen of Ghana can register to vote in Ghana’s elections. Pascal Lamptey, W.O. Dodgbe and Asigbee cannot violate this provision in our constitution with such outrageous impunity. It will therefore be prudent for the EC to quickly move in and address this issue than to set itself up for another legal tussle and humiliation as witnessed in the recent “Abu Ramadan vs EC” case at the Supreme Court.

With our compatriots on the grounds, CENAB-USA is keenly monitoring the situation in communities on the Ghana-Togo border and its related constituencies and will readily and publicly shame by naming persons engaging in acts of illegality in the ongoing voter verification exercise!

God bless our homeland, Ghana!
