Cement stealing syndicate busted at Aflao

Aflao, June 12, GNA – A syndicate which allegedly falsified documents to steal about 4,500 bags of cement worth 230 million cedis from Diamond Cement Factory at Aflao has been busted.

Members of the syndicate allegedly forged signatures of the Company’s Sales and Commercial Managers respectively.

Delali Eklu, a Storekeeper of the company suspected to be the brain behind the syndicate is on the run while investigations are being conducted to identify other suspects.

The first consignment of 1,400 bags of cement, allegedly stolen under the deal and meant for delivery to a store in Kintampo in the Brong-Ahafo region was intercepted by Aflao Police last Saturday. Mr Baba Moro, Aflao District Police Crime Officer told Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that a truck with registration number GR 1987 X carrying the bags of cement was intercepted at a police check-point at Laklevikope near Denu on the Accra-Aflao Highway following a call from the factory.

Mr Moro said one Cosmos Amenu, driver of the truck, now assisting the police in investigations mentioned Eklu as the one who loaded the truck with the cement to be delivered to Samefriq Enterprise, a business company at Kintampo.

He said when documents covering the consignment were examined, they were found to cover 4,500 bags valued at 212,175,000 out of which the 1,400 bags intercepted was the first consignment to be loaded out. Mr Moro said the bags of cement had been returned to the company and the vehicle together with Amenu taken into police custody.
