The past few days have seen ecstasy on social media owing to a purported drop in cement prices; GHACEM 32R to be precise.
However, cement traders ay the gains of the Ghanaian cedi have not reflected in lower prices at the counter.
GHACEM 32R, according to the traders, is still retailing at around 120 cedis a bag. Traders in some parts of Accra have denied claims circulating online; they assert that cement prices have not only held steady but, in some cases, seen slight increases over the last few months.
The Ghanaian cedi has in recent times been hailed as the world’s best-performing currency, with high expectations that the cost of goods, most importantly imported and other critical products like cement, will be reduced.
In February 2025, prices of cement surged from 90 cedis to sell at GHS 120.
