Wa, Nov 11, GNA – the Centre for the Development of the People (CEDEP), a Ghanaian non-governmental organization (NGO), on Friday launched a programme to monitor and evaluate the activities of District Mutual Health Insurance Schemes in 10 districts of five regions. The project, which is in three phases, would among other things include the poor and vulnerable in the society so that in the coming years everybody would be covered by one scheme. Mr Joseph Owusu, CEDEP Manager for Programme Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, said this during the launch of the project at Wa.
He mentioned the districts as Lawra, Afram Plains, Birim North, Asuitifi and Kintampo North districts.
The rest are Ahafo Ano South, Offinso, Juaboso and Bia districts. Mr Owusu said the programme would be participatory and the expertise of professionals would be sought to support the National Health Insurance schemes in the country. Dr Edward Gyader, a Medical Consultant who launched the programme, said Mutual Health Insurance was the most efficient way of eradicating poverty if it was properly adhered to and called on health providers to continue educating people on it.
“Once we are able to sympathize with bereaved families, then we should be able to extend that sympathy to the sick by contributing towards their health anytime they are sick to prevent more deaths.”
