Cede part of concession to people of Prestea – Resident

Prestea, July 6, GNA – Mr John Kweku Akapko, a resident of Prestea, has appealed to the government to get Golden Star Resources Bogoso/Prestea Limited to allocate part of their concession to small-scale miners of Prestea and its environs. This would help to curtail the rift between the mine and the many small scale operators (galamsey) whose operations were stopped by soldiers.

Mr Akakpo told journalists that a few years ago Prestea was bustling with commercial activities but with the introduction of surface mining and stopping of “Galamsey” operators many people have been rendered jobless and commercial activities have almost ceased. “The streets are virtually empty and although stores are opened everyday, owners complain that customers are not patronizing their goods,” he said.
