CDD-Ghana initiates “I Am Aware” project

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has begun an advocacy project dubbed “I Am Aware” as part of its efforts to enhance improvement in quality public service delivery in the country.

The project seeks to align citizen interest (desire for quality public goods and services delivery) with public official/duty bearer accountability and responsiveness by establishing a data center that provides accessible (reader-friendly) information on the state of public goods and services delivery in the country.

The project aims to make the data easily accessible in ways that are understood by citizens, policy makers and advocates, as well as public officials to help improve the accountability and responsiveness on the delivery of public goods and services.

To this end, CDD-Ghana has held a day’s media advocacy training to among others, introduce media practitioners to its “I Am Aware” open data platform and how they (media practitioners) could make use of the data for advocacy for improved accountable service delivery.

The training, held in Tamale, was on the theme: “Advocacy for Accountable Service Delivery and Improved Social and Human Development Outcomes” and the participants were selected from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

Mr Mohammed Awal, Research Officer at CDD-Ghana, urged media practitioners to make use of the rich data on the platform to write well-informed news stories as well as demand accountability from duty bearers.

Mr Paul Osei-Kuffour, Programmes Manager at the Northern Ghana Office of CDD-Ghana, urged all to use the user-friendly data in sectors including health, education, water, sanitation, roads, security and agriculture to keep themselves abreast with new developments in the country.
