CDB loan to sponsor Takoradi Port and Railways- President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday renewed government’s assurance to use part of the Chinese Development Bank loan to rehabilitate the Takoradi Port and railway lines in the Western Region.

He also gave the assurance that government would complete all the development projects that were initiated by late President John Evans Atta Mills and construct more to develop the entire country.

President Mahama said this when he addressed a durbar of Chiefs and people at Tarkwa, as part of his two-day tour of the Central and Western Regions to thank the people for their contribution towards the final funeral rites of late President Mills.

The durbar was attended by chiefs and party enthusiasts from all over the region who cheered happily and tried to catch a glimpse of the President.

President Mahama also promised to award the Tarkwa-Bogoso, Anyafuri, Tarkwa-Abosso- Huni Valley, Sefwi-Wiawso-Akotombra roads on contract soon, while funds would be sourced to construct more roads in the region.

“I will direct the Ministry of Roads and Transport to fast track the processing of documents for those roads and I can also assure you that contractors will soon move to site to start work on the roads that are so dear to your hearts,” he added.

He said his administration would pursue the better Ghana agenda started by the late President Mills and called for the cooperation of all Ghanaians to enable them to execute all the projects that were under the agenda.

Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister promised that the Regional Coordinating Council would step up its activities to stem armed robbery and other negative tendencies that undermine security and stability.

He called on the people of the region to rally behind the NDC government to create job opportunities to solve the unemployment rate in the country.

Awulae Atibrukusu, President of the Western Region House of Chiefs appealed to government to construct roads, schools and health facilities for the communities of the region to raise their standards of living.

He pledged the support of the chiefs to government to execute development projects throughout the country.
