Accra, April 4, GNA – The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) on Tuesday expressed satisfaction at the peace that had prevailed since the opening of the polls in the Tamale Central Bye-election. A statement signed by Mr Peter Owusu-Donkor, Head of Programmes for CDD, commended all political parties, candidates, security agencies, the media and the people of Tamale for their contribution to the exercise that had up to midday been peaceful.

The statement said the general situation at the constituency was calm, and all the 83 polling stations had received their polling materials as at 0700 hours when voting began.

It said: “All polling stations have four Police officers on duty, making sure that there was peace and order as at mid-day no significant security incident had occurred. Some Police officers assisted the elderly to cast their ballot.”

According to the statement, there were few isolated cases in some places such as the SDA Primary School polling station that ballot papers were stamped without appending signatures, and the Temporary Booth Polling station, where voting begun earlier than 0700 hours.
