CBOs organize AIDS seminar at Techiman

Techiman (B/A), Dec. 28, GNA- The Ahenbronoso Community Based Organisation (CBO) in collaboration with the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have organised a seminar on HIV/AIDS for students of four Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) drawn from the community in the Techiman District.

The seminar was to create awareness of the dangers associated with the disease and to sensitise the students on how to avoid contracting it.

Opening the workshop, Chairman of the CBOs, Mr Davis Boamah-Asumadu said they would educate the students living in the community to concentrate on their books rather than indulging in unprotected sex. Mr Boamah-Asumadu, who is the executive director of Ahenbronoso Care Foundation, an NGO, said he would personally monitor the life-style of the students and called on parents to be committed to the upbringing of their children.

The Techiman District Co-ordinator of SHEP, Mr Wilfred Sobome said even though people were aware of the dangers of the disease, there was the need to intensify education of its dangers. He said the problem of controlling the disease was social and economic.

The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) sponsored the programme.
