CBA’s asked to re-negotiate for improved health care

Assin Foso (C/R), Feb 08, GNA – Dr Nii Adjei Aryeetey, Assin North District Director of Health Services, has appealed to staff of establishments enjoying free medical care under their collective bargaining agreements (cbas) to re-negotiate with their employers to ensure that medical expenses that do not fall under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) are catered for.

Delivering a paper on the NHIS at a workshop at Assin Foso on Monday, Dr Aryeetey said the NHIS covers about 95 per cent of ailments mostly treated at the medical centres but serious ailments that require corrective surgeries are not covered.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Assin North District Assembly and the World Vision Ghana. Mr Oppong Nkansah, Assin North District Manager of the scheme, said those who are not contributors to the SSNIT scheme have to pay a minimum of 72,000 cedis annually.
