Cattle destroy foodstuffs at Pokuase

Pokuase (G/A), May 9, GNA – A herd of cattle has destroyed several hectares of foodstuffs worth about 10 million cedis at Dedeiman, near Pokuase, in the Ga District.

The animals have also polluted River Nsankye, the only source of drinking water for the people, by wading through and defecating in it. Nana Mpare III, Odikro of Dedeiman and Osiahene of Brekuso, who conducted the Ghana News Agency round to see the extent of damage caused by the cattle, said the situation had forced the people to walk more than nine kilometres to another town to fetch water.

Nana Mpare said if the Ga District Assembly does not come to their aid immediately, the people are likely to suffer an outbreak of guinea worm and other water-borne diseases.

Mr Daniel Amoah, a member of the unit committee, said the people have contributed 300,000 cedis through levies to assist the Ga District Assembly to sink a borehole for the town.
