Catholic University in Ghana to receive further boost.

The Ghanaian Catholic Apostolate Laity Council in the United States comprising New-Jersey, New-York, and New England has initiated a process aimed at raising more funds to improve structural developments currently going on at the Catholic University in Fiapre, near Sunyani,

So far, the Apostolate has contributed $32,000 through the “Propagation of Faith”, based in Michigan, towards the early completion of ongoing projects at the University.

At a meeting held at the St.Mary?s Church in Newark, New-Jersey, the council agreed that on August 27th, 2006, a joint fund raising would be held in response to appeals from the Ghana Catholic Bishop?s Conference to support the first Catholic University in Ghana.

Anthony Boadu, chairman of the council, reiterated the group?s committment to improving higher education through the Catholic faith, adding that “as a council we also attach great importance to the growth of our church as well as helping humanity acquire knowledge”.

Boadu appealed to all Catholics to embrace the initiative as a step to improve the lives of others through religion and sound education.

Rev. Brother Pius Agyeman, a renowed Catholic musicologist, told the gathering : ” the best legacy we can bequeath to our children is to ensure that they have good education to broaden their knowledge”.

This, Pius Agyeman said, makes it imperative for the people of strong faith to help develop education in their country of origin.

Rev. Fr. Paul Baffour-Awuah is the Spiritual Director of the Council which has become a focal point for Ghanaian Catholics? interaction, sharing spirituality and brainstorming, especially on ways to contribute to the welfare of member apostolates, as well as contributing toward the development of Catholic communities in Ghana, and the United States.
