Catholic Church ordains priests

The Catholic Church has held an ordination ceremony for 13 priests with a call to them to work to soothe pain and bring hope to the people. The Most Reverend Gabriel Yaw Anokye, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi, said they should not only help the congregation to grow in faith but also to do more to win new converts.

Their formal induction into the priesthood followed years of training at the Saint Peter Major Seminary at Pedu, Cape Coast. Among them was a set of twins from Nkenkasu in the Offinso North District, they are the first ever twins to serve in the archdiocese with a population of over 40,000 Catholics.

Archbishop Anokye urged them not to be involved in anything that could create image problems for the church and bring the ministry into disrepute. He appealed to them to resist crave for wealth and fame, eschew pride and arrogance, saying “do not go out there to do anything, which is not part of what you were trained to do since it could carry you into trouble”.

Most Rev Anokye said they should personify all that is dignified and noble – honesty, transparency, humility and modesty. The Dean of the Suame Deanery, the Very Rev Father Philip Opoku Nyame, appealed to their families and the church to continue to support the priests with prayers to enable them to stay focused on the task of spreading the gospel and winning souls for Christ.
