Accra, Aug.18, GNA – Nii Adote Obour II, Acting President, Ga Traditional Council, on Thursday called on the adults to live in peace and unity no matter their religious, political and ethnic background. He said they should see themselves as brothers and sisters and not to allow their differences to divide them.
Nii Obour was speaking when the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, the Most Reverend Kocherry and the Most Rev Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle, Archbishop of Accra Diocese led an eight-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Ga Traditional Council at the Ga Mantse’s Palace in Accra.
Nii Obour said in the past the elderly in society out of unity and love contributed to the training and upbringing of the youth and the absence of that culture had contributed to the recent increase of indiscipline among the youth.
He, therefore, called on tradit ional leaders; the Church and the State to inculcate in children good morals to enable them to grow into responsible citizens.
Most Reverend George Kocherry said the call was to express condolence and sympathy on behalf of Catholics to the people of the Ga Community on the death of the Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II.
“The Church wishes to share with the people of the Ga Community at large their grief… as they shared the grief of the Catholic Church when Pope John Paul II died.”
He said it was the duty of the Church to collaborate with traditional leaders and the Government for the development of the people. He announced that 200 children from Ghana were representing the country at an international youth meeting with Pope Benedict XVI in Germany to give them exposure and boost their morale. The delegation presented two bottles of schnapps and three million cedis and signed the Book of Condolence.
Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, La Mantse, commended the delegation for their sympathy and in maintaining harmonious relationship between the Ga community and the Catholic Church, adding, ” this visit is a very historic one”.
