Mampong (Ash), Nov 14, GNA – Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene, has expressed regret about the occasional utterances by some Christians that suggest that adherence to traditional beliefs are pagans.
He suggested forging closer collaboration between traditional heads and clergymen to change the misconception. Addressing a delegation of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference that paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Mampong on Saturday, Daasebre Osei Bonsu said the move would enhance relations between traditional believers and Christians.
The call formed part of activities marking this year’s plenary session by the Conference that is being hosted by the Konongo-Mampong Catholic Diocese at Agona in the Afigya-Sekyere District. Daasebre Osei Bonsu praised the Catholic Church for its appreciation for tradition and cultural values, saying, “Your tolerance and respect for cultural identity has since time immemorial distinguished you from the rest”.
The Most Rev Lucas Abadamloora, the President of the Conference and Bishop in-charge of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, expressed the hope that the session, which ends on Friday, would enable it evolve pragmatic measures to effectively propagate Catholicism.
