Catholic Bishop suggests setting up of NHIS complaints committees

Tepa (Ash), Jan 18, GNA – The Most Rev Peter Kwaku Atuahene, the Catholic Bishop of Goaso, has suggested the setting up of complaints committees at the district level to address problems from the public relating to the implementation of the District Mutual Health Insurance schemes.

He said complaints from the public about the problems they encounter in trying to access health services necessitated the setting up of such committees for the public to have confidence in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Bishop Atuahene was addressing the Goaso Diocesan Catholic Women’s Association at celebration of the sixth annual feast of the Holy Family at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District. A total 667 women attended the four-day celebration of the feast from the 18 parishes in the diocese.

Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the Ahafo-Ano District Chief Executive, said since women constituted more than 50 per cent of the population, they should take keen interest in political activities in order to play active role in determining priorities. He said religion abhorred immoral activities and indecent dressing and therefore called on the women, as mothers, to impart Christian and moral practices and training to their children. Mrs Rose Boakye-Yiadom, President of the association, appealed to the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs and the district assemblies to support women’s associations financially to enable them to expand and sustain their economic activities. 18 Jan 06
