Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi to hold Third Synod

Kumasi, Nov.18,GNA-The Third Synod of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi will begin in Kumasi from December 4, 2004. A release from the Synod Planning Committee of the Archdiocese and signed by the Very Reverend Father Dr Stephen Ntim, Synod Secretary said 10 very import issues will be discussed at the Synod which has as its theme “Church As Family of God”.

Among the issues to be discussed are issues of pastoral importance like Christian Formation, the Youth, Pastoral Response to urban problems such as HIV/AIDS, the issue of girls from other parts of the country who flock to Kumasi for greener pastures and end up becoming prostitutes. Others are the problem of streetism, how to make the Catholic faith more African, Liturgy, Catholic Education and others. The release said synods are held every 10 years and that the first one was in December 1984, followed by the second in 1994 and the December one will be the third.
