Catholic Agency To Feed Pupils

Wiaga (U/E), AUG. 14, – The Catholic Relief Services is to provide feeding for the pupils of St. Francis and Azenab primary schools in Wiaga. To facilitate the feeding programme, the Parent Teacher Association of the schools has agreed to build two kitchens, provide fuel wood and assist to off-load food items brought in by the sponsors. Madam Melaney Akanchalabey, Builsa district manager of Catholic schools, appealed to the parents at a meeting to desist from subjecting their daughters to female genital mutilation, describing the practice as ”dehumanising”. It is necessary to send your daughters to school and ensure that they stay in school and not rpt not withdrawn for early marriage. Madam Akanchalabey commended teachers of the two schools for their dedication to the teaching profession and urged them to maintain the high standards they have set. Mr. Edward Atoobey, Wiaga circuit supervisor of schools, told the teachers not to regard his regular visits to the schools as “witch hunting”. “My presence is merely to complement your efforts of ensuring high standards at your school”. He appealed to the teachers to co-operate with the community and appreciate each other’s role in the proper upbringing of children. Mr Atoobey called for voluntary cooks to prepare thefood for the pupils.
