After a brief but momentous and headline-grabbing tenure, Carl Wilson, Chairman of the Castle-directed Confiscated Vehicle Committee, and his deputy Nana Olivier aka Frenchman, have been booted out.
Olivier, who pulled a gun on a security operative, threatening to blow his head off, might in addition face prosecution for handling a weapon without authority. The case is being handled by the Tema Police. The dismissal of the duo was prompted by cacophonous complaints from both angry National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and members of the general public, particularly car importers whose vehicles were disposed of in questionable circumstances.
There have been a series of adverse publications about the car stealing syndicate operating under the cover of the Osu Castle, with top government officials including the security details of the President being mentioned. A 270 Mercedes Benz car parked at the Kumasi Police Training School, whose auction a court had ordered, was said to have been taken to the Presidential Car Pool at the Castle but found its ways to a private garage at Sakaman in Accra under the instruction of a security capo at the Castle.
Damning documents and video recordings of the activities of the syndicate, with some bordering on criminalities, are in possession of the media, ready to hit the headlines.
Daily Guide has learnt about last minute but abortive attempts at reversing the decision to fire the duo whose mismanagement had attracted the opprobrium of many Ghanaians, especially following the expose by the Daily Guide Newspaper. Not even the engagement of a man of god by Carl Wilson could have the Castle authorities drop the ultimate decision. Wilson is believed to be half Togolese who sojourned in Canada before relocating to Ghana for e election 2008 campaign.
