Accra, April 25, GNA – A 26-year-old cashier who uttered bank cheques and pocketed 52 million cedis belonging to his employers was on Monday sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Circuit court in Accra. Anthony Tetteh pleaded guilty to forgery of documents and the court convicted him accordingly.
Tetteh, however, pleaded not guilty to stealing 52.63 million cedis stating that he only pocketed 5.2 million cedis. The court admitted him to a 50 million cedi bail with two sureties on the charge of stealing.
He is to appear again on May 4.
The case as presented by Chief Inspector Helena Sarpomah was that on January 1, this year, Ms Comfort Eyiah, Managing Director of Fair Joint of Company Limited, dealers in general goods at Kaneshie, gave some monies to Tetteh to be paid into the company’s account at the SG-SSB at Kaneshie.
Prosecution said later Ms Eyiah issued cheques to cash the monies but they were dishonoured.
The complainant confronted Tetteh and he confessed taking part of the money and depositing the rest in the company’s account. The prosecutor said enquiries into the company pay-in books between May last year and January this year revealed that Tetteh had uttered figures and stolen 52.63 million cedis. 25 April 05
