The National Public Relations Officer of the Cashew Traders and Export Association of Ghana, Mr. Eddie Oppong, has disclosed the rationale behind the Association’s national meeting held in Sunyani.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Oppong stated that the key objective of the gathering was to address the numerous challenges confronting the cashew industry to ensure smoother and more efficient operations for all stakeholders.
He emphasized that strengthening the cashew sector is crucial for traders, exporters, farmers, and the nation’s economic growth, adding that the Association remains committed to pushing for reforms and policies that will enhance free and fair operations within the sector.
He strongly condemned the increasing dominance of foreign buyers—particularly whites and other foreign nationals—in the cashew purchasing space, noting that their control over pricing and market access is hindering the ability of local buyers to operate freely.
According to him, this situation threatens the sustainability of local cashew businesses and undermines Ghana’s efforts to build a resilient indigenous cashew market. He called on authorities to intervene and implement measures that protect local traders and ensure fairness in the sector.
