Cashew Farmers Form Association

A 41-member Cashew Farmers’ Association has been formed at Dromankese in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo with Mr Anthony Asarfo-Adjei as chairman.

Mr J.O. Appiah, the cashew marketing officer in-charge of the Dromankese zone, told the GNA that there were more than 100 hectares of cashew farms in the area.

He said he bought more than 100 bags of cashew nuts during the marketing season last year and hoped to buy not less than 200 bags this year.

Mr Appiah appealed to the government to give members loans to enable them to improve and to expand their activities.

He also called for the establishment of a government purchasing company to buy the nuts as private companies currently buy them.

Members of the association called on the cashew purchasing companies to increase the price of the nuts from 3,000 cedis to 5,000 cedis per kilogram.
