Cashew farmers call for purchasing company for the crop

Kranka (B/A), Jan. 5, GNA – Cashew farmers from Kranka in the Nkoranza District have appealed to the government to establish a purchasing company that would deal with the marketing of the crop in order that cashew nuts would also be given a stable price. Mr Emmanuel Asante-Pedi and Mr George Kwabena Amisare, who are cashew farmers at Kranka told the Ghana News Agency on Friday that there were over 100 cashew farmers in the area. They said they always had to sell their produce to middlemen who bought them after negotiations, as there is no stable price for cashew nuts.

The farmers expressed the hope that the opening of a produce company will attract the creation of depots at cashew growing centres on larger scales. They called on the government to offer them some credit facilities to enable them to expand and improve upon their farming activities. In another development, a 32-year-old farmer from Kranka, Mr Kofi Iddirisu has called on the President to provide subsidies on farming inputs.
