Carrier imprisoned for stealing VCD deck and cassette recorder

Sekondi Dec. 17 GNA – A District Magistrate’s Court at Sekondi on Thursday sentenced Maxwell Quacoe Amingo, a common carrier, to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a VCD deck and a cassette recorder from a radio mechanic.

The accused pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor said the accused, who lived at Effiakuma, broke into the workshop of Stephen Cudjoe, a radio mechanic, in the locality and stole the deck and the recorder brought by clients for repairs.

He said at about 07.30 hours on December 9 this year, when Cudjoe went to work, he detected the theft and informed his colleague mechanics about it.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the following day a radio mechanic informed him that one Samba had given him a VCD deck to sell for him. He said Cudjoe accompanied the informant to his workshop where he identified the deck and when Samba was contacted, he mentioned the accused person as the one who gave it to him to sell.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused person was arrested and handed over to the Police.

He said in his statement to the Police, the accused said he found the deck in the bush but denied any knowledge of the cassette recorder.
