Carpenter remanded in prison custody for threat of death

Cape Coast, Feb. 6 GNA- A 34-year-old carpenter, Egya Abeka was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by a circuit court at Cape Coast for allegedly threatening to kill his father Mr Thomas Ampam with a cutlass. Abeka who pleaded not guilty would reappear on Friday February 16.

Prosecuting, chief inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court, presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that the complainant is the father of Abeka and they both live at Eguafo and that since Abeka returned from Liberia two years ago he has been threatening to kill the father with a cutlass.

He said Mr Ampam did not take the threats of Abeka serious until on January 29 this year, when Abeka chased Mr Ampam to the farm and threatened her with cutlass to leave the farm and out of fear for her life she left.

He said later, Mr Ampam’s sister told him that she met Abeka on the farm who told her to inform him (Mr Ampam) and his wife that anytime he meets them on the farm he would butcher them with a cutlass.

Mr Amonoo said with this information and fearing for their lives Mr Ampam immediately reported the matter to the police and Abeka was arrested.
