Carpenter jailed for two years

Tarkwa (W/R), Sept. 12, GNA – A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced Kwasi Amagyei, a 24 year-old carpenter, to two years in imprisonment for threatening to kill two people.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adiita told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainants Mr Peter Coffie, an assembly member and Mr Daniel Adamu, unit committee chairman together with the accused person lived at Atta-ne-Atta, a village near Adjakaa-Manso.

He said the community recently started constructing a public place of convenience through communal labour but the accused person said instead of digging the pit, he would use his skills to do any carpentry work for the community.

DSP Adiita said on September 1, Mr Adamu then gave some pieces of boards to the accused person to repair some broken windows of a school building.

He said the accused person refused to do the work with the excuse that his only hammer had been broken.

He said this did not go down well with Mr Adamu so he reported the accused person to the Police Inspector of Adjaako-Manso.

DSP Adiita said the Inspector then sent a letter of invitation to the accused person who got angry when he received the letter and threatened to kill the assembly member.

He said the accused person then armed himself with a locally manufactured shot gun and three pieces of cartridges started roaming the main street of Attta-ne-Atta looking for the assembly member and the committee chairman.

DSP Adiita said the Police were called in and arrested the accused person.

In its ruling, the court ordered that the gun be destroyed.
