Carpenter jailed 8 years for defiling 7-year-old pupil

A circuit court in Wa in the Upper West regional capital presided over His Honour Baah Forson Agyapong, has sentenced Siita Sakande 24-year old carpenter to prison in hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old pupil.

The trial judge His Honour Baah Forson Agyapong said the demeanor of the accused in accepting his action, according to Balu Mohammed of Tumu-based Radford Fm who followed proceedings, was considered in the passing of his sentence after he pleaded guilty to the crime without hesitation after he was apprehended.

A police source said he cooperated with investigations throughout the trial period resulting in early determination of his case.

“In the courtroom, Siita was asked how old was the girl is? He said my Honour, 7-years old, and then the judge added one year to the girl’s years and said he was going in to be jailed for 8 years to serve as deterrent to others to desist from such criminal acts”

Police in Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region it would be recalled, arrested the 24-year old carpenter for defiling an underage girl in his room.

According to police investigators, Sitta invited his victim to watch television in his room and while she was seated, he asked her to sit on his laps and in the process forcibly penetrated her but later warned her not to reveal her ordeal to anyone.

He threatened the victim with death should she dare reveal her predicament to anyone, not even her mother.

The victim adhered and failed to report what had befallen her until the following morning when her mother spotted some discharge from her private part coupled with her inability to properly walk.

She was interrogated and mentioned the name of the suspect as the one who defiled her the previous night leading to his arrest by police who arraigned him before the Tumu Magistrate court where he has been remanded to allow for further investigations.

The case was later transferred to a circuit court in Wa and on the plea of guilty by the accused, he was convicted.
