Carpenter jailed 10 years over hard drugs

A carpenter caught with marijuana has been ordered by a Kumasi Circuit Court to serve 10 years in jail in hard labour.

Kwabena Ankamah pleaded guilty to the offense.

Police Superintendent Regina Addo-Yobo told the court, presided over by Mrs. Helen Vivian Amoah, that the convict was arrested by a police highway patrol team on November 22, at about 1345 hours.

The psychoactive drug had been compressed into three parcels and concealed on a Metro Mass Transit bus, heading to Kumasi from Sunyani.

Supt. Addo-Yobo said Ankamah readily admitted ownership of the stuff and mentioned one Kwame Agyemeng at Drobo in the Brong-Ahafo Region as his source of supply in his caution statement.

The prosecution said samples sent for forensic laboratory examination was confirmed to be marijuana.
