Asamankese (E/R), Jan 17, GNA – A 28-year-old carpenter who was fond of threatening his mother with death whenever she failed to give him money had been granted a five-million-cedi bail by the Asamankese Circuit court.
Joseph Brandt Appiah pleaded guilty with explanation and is to re-appear on February 16.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector G.D. Bruce told the court that on December 31, 2005 Appiah, as usual, went to the mother for money and when she could not provide it he threatened to kill her and her children but was persuaded by an aunt to leave the house. The prosecution said at dawn on January 02, this year, Appiah armed himself with a cutlass and went to the mother’s house and attempted to open the door of the room in which some of his younger siblings were sleeping, damaging the door in the process. The mother raised alarm and when neighbours rushed to the scene, Appiah fled into the bush and a report was made to the police and the accused was later arrested.
There was laughter in court when Appiah said the mother had failed to show him who his father was and therefore had to give him money whenever he needed it.
He said he had an issue with a girl and yet the mother would not lead him to go and see the girl’s parents.
