Careless driver fined three million cedis

Asamankese, June 24, GNA – The Asamankese Circuit Court has sentenced Emmanuel Owusu, a taxi driver, to a fine of three million cedis for reckless driving resulting in injuries to three passengers on his vehicle. In default, he would go to prison for 18 months in hard labour. Owusu pleaded not guilty to careless driving and negligently causing harm to three persons.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan said on June 14, 2003 Owusu, who was driving from Suhum to Asamankese with three passengers on board, was involved in an accident by hitting the back of a taxicab. The impact forced both vehicles into a ditch injuring the three passengers.
