Careless driver fined eight million cedis.

Tema, Feb. 22, GNA- A driver whose carelessness caused the death of a woman was on Friday sentenced to a fine of eight million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court “B”.

Korbla Ohoyie who pleaded not guilty will go to jail for four years if he fails to pay the fine.

He was in addition sentenced to a fine of 500,000 cedis each for negligently causing harm to Addai Doku, now deceased, Joseph Agbedan and Wisdom Apeyesi. All the sentences are to run consecutively. Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor, told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on June 29, 2001, Ohoyie was driving a vehicle with passengers from Accra to Aflao.

He said on reaching a section of Dawa and Sege, Ohoyie who was following some vehicles, decided to over take the vehicles ahead of him collided with an on-coming vehicle.

The prosecution said Madam Doku was trapped in the other vehicle and burnt to death, while and a number of passengers were seriously injured.
